FAQ:
Q: How long is the contest?
A: The contest itself is 3 hours long and you would get to solve 4-6 problems. Besides the contest, there would be intro, dinner and prizes and discussion of solutions to the problems. So make sure you are free till 6 PM.
Q: What all can I bring?
A: You can bring any books, papers and pencils and any other stationary like rulers and compass. Personal calculators and computers are NOT allowed.
Q: What all languages can I program in?
A: Java, C, C++, Python. We shall be using the javac (version 6) compiler for Java and g++ (ver 4.2) for C/C++, and Python 2.6. We can add any other language (e.g Haskell/Pascal) supported by the lab linux machines on request (please come early).
Q: Can I pair program?
A: No. You must compete individually.
Q: What operating system would I get?
A: Linux. Make yourself familiar with the Linux environments available at the UT labs before showing up for the contest.
Q: What are the level of the problems? How can I practice?
A: A basic knowledge of one of the eligible programming languages is a primary requirement. You can get a feel for the level of the contest by solving last year's problems (http://utupe.org/programs/contests/ut_fall_08/problems/).
Google Code Jam, TopCoder, SPOJ and UVa all have excellent problems that are at a similar level of what you shall get at this contest. These sites also let you submit and test your own solutions.
Q: I have more questions!
A: Visit the contest web page. If you cannot find your answers there, feel free to email us at president@utupe.org.
